Who pays for menopause?: The cost hiding in your claims
Menopause rarely shows up labeled as menopause. It appears in claims as sleep problems, anxiety, pelvic pain, urinary incontinence, brain fog, and joint pain, each sent to a different provider and billed as a separate claim. No single number captures the total cost, and no one owns it.
New research from the Integrated Benefits Institute (IBI) measures the distance between what employers believe they offer and what women experience at work. Join IBI’s Director of Research, who authored the study, and two benefits leaders on November 10 at 1 pm ET to see what menopause costs employers and what closes the gap. You will leave with a clearer view of what your women’s health spend pays for today.
The research in three numbers1
- 76.8% vs. 29.3%: Employers who say menopause is a legitimate workplace health topic, compared with women who say the same about their workplace. The 47.5-point gap is the widest in the study.
- 68%: Symptomatic women who have never discussed menopause with a manager or HR. Employers often read that silence as low demand.
- 19.6%: Affected women who have seriously considered leaving their job.
